Isabel Roberts' Pavilion in the Water
June 22, 2022 | 7pm-8pm
"Isabel Roberts' Pavilion in the Water" is a two film series that explores the futurist vision of the female architect who studied design with Frank Lloyd Wright (and even ran his shop in Chicago) before moving to Florida after closing FLW's Illinois practice. The singular band shell in the water, designed to be in the lake rather than beside the lake, is the focus of the series and has all the hallmarks of Prairie School Style originated by FLW and his proteges in the Upper-Midwest. The film also covers Isabel's design work with Ida Ryan, their firm, one of the first female architecture studios in the country, and the buildings built in Orlando and surrounding communities.
The Orlando Foundation for Architecture collaborated with Grace Arts Center in South Florida who received a grant for ten short micro-documentaries focusing on self-taught peoples and the culture they created in the period before WWII.
