About The Event

Historic Sanford is admired for its brick-lined streets, boutique storefronts, live oaks, and a significant collection of historic commercial and residential architecture. Incorporated in 1877, Sanford is one of Central Florida’s oldest incorporated cities. Sanford offers diverse architecture styles from traditional Florida to specific styles dating back to 1883.

Historic Downtown District includes more than 25 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour highlights include:

  • Sanford Information Center (original US Post Office) 1917
  • Sanford Civic Center  - Florida’s Mid-Century Modern 1958
  • PICO Building -  Romanesque Revival and Moorish Revival Styles  - 1890
  • Wayne Dench Performing Arts Center  - 1923
  • Old Jail House 1890/Fire Station 1890

Historic Residential District includes about 434 buildings in many historic architectural styles, including Craftsman, Prairie, Queen Anne, Folk Victorian, National, Colonial Revival, Spanish Eclectic, and Mission. Tour highlights include:

  • Venue 1902 - old grammar school 1902
  • Higgins House - 19th Century Queen Anne Victorian
  • First United Methodist Church - 1890
  • Episcopal Church  - (originally 1873, 1882 then 1920’s)
  • All Soul's Historic Chapel  (original built in 1887-1888 – burned down in 1931, rebuilt by 1936)
  • Bettye Smith Cultural Arts Center 1924

Plus, our resident guide will provide some fascinating stories about the city's history while exploring the city more intimately.

A fun way to reminisce about the historic charm that remains in the city today!  And when you are done, visit one of the many unique restaurants and breweries in the downtown district.
