Sydonie Mansion | 5538 Sydonie Dr, Mount Dora, FL
Join us for an unforgettable tour of Sydonie Mansion, Florida’s oldest estate, where history, architecture, and natural beauty come together. Nestled along the shores of Lake Minore, this stunning Gilded Age mansion offers a glimpse into a bygone era with its breathtaking design, lush gardens, and rich history.
This magnificent mansion is of the steel magnate James L. Laughlin and his wife, Sydney who settled on the lakefront property in the 1800’s. In 1903, they hired architect Grosvenor Atterbury, who worked for McKim, Meade, & White, to design the home after the famous Alhambra Castle in Spain.
The home is a Mediterranean revival style with some Asian influences. The home was purchased and lovingly restored by Dick and Carla Durante in 1997. Its current owners, Clark and Amy Colyer, purchased the home in 2014 with the idea of making it a historic landmark for the Central Florida area.
