Moving to Orlando 8 years ago, I thought it would be interesting to look back 10 years and see what buildings were honored in 2004 by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and share them with you.

One of 2004’s award winning designs was the University of Central Florida Student Health Care Center. It received the AWARD OF HONOR in the Healthcare Category, designed by MATEU, and HuntonBrady of Winter Park/Orlando, Florida.

In a campus that was master planned with pedestrian streets arranged in a manner that recalls planetary “orbits” the Student Health Center occupies one of the more central “orbits”, close to the center of campus. An architectural gesture is made from the entrance to the pharmacy to “grab” one of the orbit streets, assuring visual connectivity for all in the campus.

The independent Jury said: “Linear Element establishes a true threshold while serving as a circulation corridor.”
