Universal Orlando’s under-construction Cabana Bay Beach Resort will be a blast from the past — with all the 21st century amenities, of course. The massive construction project, which ranked No. 2 on Orlando Business Journal’s list of largest Central Florida projects underway, was said to be inspired by American roadside motels of the 1950s and 1960s, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Executive Project Director Russ Dagon told the Sentinel that Universal is “using architecture to celebrate the era.” The vibrant colors, which include bright blues, greens and oranges, were chosen using retro postcards.
The $206 million, 1.2 million-square-foot resort is slated for completion in May.
