It also just received the AIA Florida 2015 Honor Award for Historic Preservation/Restoration. Originally opened as a single-screen movie house in 1940, Orlando’s Cameo Theater functioned for only a few years, until closing after World War II. Brasfield and Gorrie has recently announced construction start on One Daytona, being developed by International Speedway Corp. and Atlanta-based Jacoby Development Inc. It is slated to include 500,000 square feet of retail, specialty restaurants, a 200-room hotel, 325 residential units, a cinema and other entertainment. The project already has signed on Bass Pro Shops and Cobb Theaters. It will be located on International Speedway Boulevard near the Daytona Speedway Stadium.

I ran across this video on Architechnophilia, it shows what some inspired designers are doing to improve communities in which they are involved. An abandoned house has been salvaged to become an outdoor theater for the town of York, Alabama. The project was spearheaded by artist Matthew Mazzotta. The intro of the video shows how this unique icon house/sculpture opens into a 100 seat theater. So even if you don’t watch the whole video you will understand the basic project. htt
