The recently released tome by Arcadia Publishing will be available to purchase at 3 upcoming events. The first offering last Monday has already passed. The book has been prepared in collaboration with the College Park Neighborhood Association.
The book is dedicated to Fred and Grace Hagedorn, who moved to College Park in the 1980s and contributed greatly to efforts to preserve its history. Grace Hagedorn’s “30 years of painstaking research inform every page of the book,” Tana Mosier Porter writes in the Acknowledgments. Like other books in Arcadia’s Images of America series, “College Park” features more than 200 vintage images, well scanned and reproduced in the publisher’s trademark format.
While settlers lived there before it was platted as a neighborhood in Orlando, its growth was concentrated in the 1920’s and again after World War II. The name reflects the developers idea to name the streets after colleges: Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Cornell, and later Vanderbilt, DePauw and Amherst among others.
